1. Data Controller

2. What data we process

• Quiz preferences: answers and filters selected to generate recommendations. No accounts are managed and, in general, preferences are not stored as a personal profile.
• Technical data: logs and security/diagnostic data (e.g. IP address, user agent, date/time, requested endpoints, errors), necessary for operation and abuse prevention.
• Statistical data (with consent only): usage measurements via Google Analytics loaded through Google Tag Manager, activated only after explicit consent.
• Vercel Web Analytics: basic statistics provided by Vercel, without third-party cookies, in accordance with Vercel's documentation.

3. Purposes

• providing film and TV series recommendations
• ensuring security, preventing abuse, and keeping the service operational
• measuring and improving the service through analytics (with consent where required)

4. Legal basis

• Performance of the requested service (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): use of the entered preferences to generate results.
• Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): security, abuse prevention, maintenance.
• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): for activating cookie/identifier-based analytics (Google Analytics via GTM), where required (e.g. EU).

5. Cookies and consent

Filmchooser uses technical cookies necessary for operation. It may also use analytics cookies (Google Analytics via GTM) only after explicit consent. If the user declines, Google Analytics is not activated and the site remains fully usable.

6. Retention

• Quiz preferences: used to generate results and not archived as a profile.
• Technical logs: typically up to 90 days, unless longer retention is required due to incidents or legal obligations.

7. Recipients (providers)

Data may be processed by essential technical providers:

• Vercel (frontend hosting and related services)
• Render (backend/API hosting and related services)
• Google (Google Analytics via GTM, only after consent)

Data may be disclosed to competent authorities if required by law.

8. Transfers outside the EU

Some providers (e.g. Google) may process data outside the European Economic Area. In such cases, the safeguards required by the GDPR apply (e.g. standard contractual clauses and appropriate measures).

9. User rights

Under the GDPR, users may exercise the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability (where applicable), withdrawal of consent, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Note: since there are no accounts, it may not be possible to uniquely identify a user or retrieve historical data beyond technical logs, if any.

10. Data sources (TMDB)

Filmchooser uses The Movie Database (TMDB) API for information on films and TV series. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
